October in Canada smells like wet leaves and cheap candy. We wanted a slot that felt like that, so we made one. Haunted Maple is a free Halloween slot you play right here on this page. There’s nothing to download, no account and no money involved.
You get 20 spins. The reels change shape on every spin, symbols tumble when you win, and whatever candy you’ve hauled by the end is your score. Then you send that score to a friend and see if they can beat it.
On a computer, the space bar spins. Turbo makes the animations faster and changes nothing else.
How a Haunt Works
Each of the six reels drops between two and seven symbols per spin. Multiply the rows together and you get the number of ways to win. Six rows on every reel makes 46,656 ways. Seven on every reel makes 117,649, the most the game can give you. The count sits at the top of the game and changes every spin, and you will quickly learn to hate the two-row reel that turns up in the middle and quietly ruins things.
Wins pay left to right on neighbouring reels, starting from the first one, in any row. When you hit, the winning symbols burst and new ones drop in from above. If the new ones make another win, the whole thing tumbles again. A lucky chain can keep going for several tumbles on one spin.
The Symbols
The top symbol is a goalie mask. This is a Canadian slot, and nothing at a Halloween party is scarier than a goalie who hasn’t stopped a puck all night. After the mask come the jack-o’-lantern, a ghost, a black cat, a bat, a potion and candy corn, then A, K, Q and J.
| Symbol | 3 reels | 4 reels | 5 reels | 6 reels |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Goalie Mask | 27 | 68 | 162 | 405 |
| Jack-o’-Lantern | 22 | 54 | 108 | 270 |
| Ghost | 16 | 41 | 81 | 203 |
| Black Cat | 11 | 27 | 54 | 135 |
| Bat | 8.1 | 22 | 41 | 108 |
| Potion | 6.8 | 16 | 32 | 81 |
| Candy Corn | 5.4 | 14 | 27 | 68 |
| A | 4.1 | 11 | 22 | 54 |
| K | 4.1 | 9.5 | 19 | 49 |
| Q | 2.7 | 8.1 | 16 | 41 |
| J | 2.7 | 6.8 | 14 | 32 |
Pays are per way, so they stack up. Two masks on reel one, three on reel two and one on reel three make 6 ways, and 6 × 27 is 162 candy.
The Full Moon is wild on reels 2 to 5 and stands in for any regular symbol. The red maple leaf with a carved face is the Maple Lantern, the scatter. It pays nothing on its own. Its job is to open the bonuses.
Trick or Treat and the Free Spins
Three Maple Lanterns anywhere on the screen give you three pumpkins to choose from. One hides between 300 and 1,500 candy, one adds two spins to your haunt, and one is a ghost that takes nothing and gives nothing. They’re shuffled every time, so there is no lucky pumpkin, whatever your gut says.
Four lanterns open 8 free spins, five open 10 and six open 12. This is where big scores come from. Every tumble during the feature adds one to the multiplier, and the multiplier doesn’t reset until the feature is over, so a round that starts at x1 can be paying x9 by its last spin. Three lanterns during free spins add five more.
How often does that happen? We ran 40,000 simulated haunts through the game’s math, and about one in six reached free spins at least once.
Scores, Titles and Where You Stand
When your 20 spins run out, the game hands you a title and tells you how you compare with other players. Those percentages come from the same 40,000 simulated haunts, so they’re real numbers and not flattery.
| Title | Candy hauled | Share of haunts |
|---|---|---|
| Lost in the Fog | Under 600 | About 22% |
| Trick-or-Treater | 600 to 1,199 | About 32% |
| Pumpkin Carver | 1,200 to 2,499 | About 29% |
| Ghost Wrangler | 2,500 to 5,999 | About 12% |
| Maple Wraith | 6,000 to 14,999 | About 4% |
| Lord of the Haunt | 15,000 and up | Under 2% |
A typical haunt ends somewhere around 1,100 candy. Clear 19,000 and you’re in the top 1%. Take a screenshot, because you won’t see that often.
Dare a Friend
At the end of a haunt you can add your name and copy a challenge link. Whoever opens it sees your score above the reels and gets the same 20 spins to beat it. The game also builds a row of emoji, one per spin: a cobweb for nothing, candy and bats for small wins, a pumpkin or a ghost for bigger ones and a maple leaf for a bonus. It was made for the group chat on October 31st, but it works just as well in March.
Is There a Way to Win More?
No. Every spin is random, and we would rather tell you that than invent a system. The only decisions you make are which pumpkin to open and whether to go again.
One more thing you should know. Haunted Maple is generous on purpose: over a long run it pays back about 104 candy for every 100 you spin. Real-money slots are built the other way around. Their return to player sits below 100%, which means that over time the casino keeps part of every bet. Remember that if a free game puts you in the mood for a real one.

You’re welcome to embed it. Press Embed under the reels, copy the code and paste it into any page that accepts HTML. It works on phones and doesn’t need a plugin. The code ends with a small credit link back to this page, and we’d appreciate it if you left it in.
